TO KNOW IS TO LOVE HER

Mahatma Ghandi said “Be the change you want to see in the world.” The message is a powerful one, asking us to take ownership of our life, responsibility for our behavior, and to be a resource of benevolence.

As I put this issue together, I found myself asking deeper questions about life, what gratitude means, and how to better serve not just our industry, but how to best serve our communities. With so many opportunities to show a little civic pride, utilize this month to volunteer and do something kind for a stranger. And take time to appreciate those who make this city great.

As a native Angeleno, I’ve always pictured Los Angeles as a mixed up being that leans toward both having an insatiable appetite for chaos and an affinity for love, passion, and dream-making. Los Angeles always has embodied a female spirit, and once you’ve spent your life here, watching the rises and falls of various industries, trends, and landmarks, the Beatles lyrics, “to know her is to love her” become a mantra that epitomizes this ideology. LA is a city to revel in and respect because like most of those who have survived here, sometimes the challenges of a big city demand your adoration.

This November marks some epic political moves as we prepare for the 2020 presidential election; we will see a change in weather (or somewhat moderate change for us Angelenos); we are celebrating togetherness and gratitude; and it’s a pivotal time when the holidays—whether we want to embrace them or not—have officially arrived.

As you thumb through the pages of this month’s issue, you may learn about females leading the way in media and how to give your canine some insightful natural healing, take a chance on some new products, embrace singledom and independence, plan a trip to the snow, or educate yourself on cannabis resources. The reading this month is adventurous.

Here’s to forging ahead, pausing to appreciate the simple things, and finding your joy however you may.

Be brave, live bold, and smile from your soul.
