Fall Getaway: Moab

Sep 28, 2016 03:33PM ● By Stephanie Wilson
Just a five-plus-hour drive from Denver, Moab, Utah, is home to some of the most breathtaking sites this country has to offer. And that's not just hyperbole. Moab is where you'll find Arches and Canyonlands national parks, as well as a state park AND a national forest. Altogether, this part of Utah boasts over a thousand square miles of pristine, protected land dominated by incredible red rock formations.

The undulating land is the stuff out of a photographer's dream. From the Island in the Sky in Canyonlands, colorful canyons, mesas, and buttes stretch as far as the eye can see—or as the lens can capture. And that photogenic landscape doesn't just attract shutterbugs: this part of Utah also calls to hikers, mountain bikers, and other adventure enthusiasts, who find no shortage of adrenaline-pumping activities to choose from. Think: rafting, canyoneering, ballooning, and more.

Late fall is the perfect time of year to check out Moab: The scorching summer temps have given way to warm days and cooler nights. The kids are back in school so the crowds have thinned out a bit on weekdays. And the beauty of the natural setting knows no season. So what are you waiting for?
