I think it’s safe to say the word “change” makes you feel one of two things: excited or mortified. I’m more of a “bring it on” kind of gal when it comes to change, so as we enter into fall with our bodies exhausted from the blistering heat and the staggering political reality show that isn’t a TV drama (wait, you sure?), a seasonal shift to rainy days and foggy mornings is a welcome change I think we’re all ready for. This month marks imminent shifts in more than the weather. Midterm elections are right around the corner (here’s where I remind all of you to register to vote and to actually go vote), cannabis is making headway, fresh strains are back on the shelves in California, old hotels are new again, restaurants are tempting us with heartier cuisine, and the world of art seems to be adamant about creating exhibitions of unity—and I’m happy about that.
As I put this issue together, I thought about a growing number of things: legislation being presented on a national and state level, women taking on bigger roles in all facets of business, the deep desire to travel somewhere new, and how to maintain sanity when every single day the news stories spill out like an untamed river, leaving all of us in a state of bewilderment. Okay, maybe that last one is just me. Point is, October means change, and while we find ourselves blissfully admiring the yellows, golds, and ambers of the leaves or slowly sipping on that hot cup of whatever pumpkin-spiced seasonal concoction Starbucks is serving, may we not forget that change is indeed here. How we respond to that change is entirely up to us, so if I might make a suggestion (assuming you all answered with a hearty and emphatic yes), take time to pontificate, but don’t get so deep in thought you ignore spontaneity. This month, make a change. Make it count.
Here’s to living life with a little extra fervor.
